The Cause

A new Dentistry Clinic

The Children’s Dentistry Clinic, the largest and busiest pediatric dental facility in Canada, provides specialized care for vulnerable children in Montreal, including those with complex medical conditions, behavioral challenges, and underprivileged backgrounds. The clinic provides critical care for serious health conditions, as well as a unique Desensitization Program to help hypersensitive children, particularly those with autism, adapt to dental procedures. The clinic also serves as a referral center for local dentists handling complex cases.

Challenges

Currently located in an outdated building, The Children’s Dentistry Clinic faces several challenges, including limited access to services, unsuitable for vulnerable children, and delays in patient care due to its distance from The Children’s Hospital and complementary services.

New clinic project

The newly redesigned Children’s Dentistry Clinic will be located near The Montreal Children’s Hospital, offering the first sensory-adapted pediatric dental facility in Quebec. It will focus on providing inclusive, equitable, and accessible dental care for children with severe conditions, ensuring comprehensive, child-and-family-centered services.

Key features:

  • Improving the delivery of care: Better designed and additional treatment rooms will optimize the clinic’s model and structure, including hiring more hygienists, enabling access to complementary hospital services.
  • Accessibility and Inclusion: New equipment and sensory-adapted spaces, including wheelchair access, visual and tactile aids, and communication tools for neurodivergent patients and those with disabilities.
  • Advancing Expertise: Dedicated teaching and research spaces will train the next generation of dental professionals who respect different cultures, promote innovation and improve care for vulnerable populations.

The new clinic represents a significant step forward in the provision of dental care, ensuring equitable access for all children while promoting innovation and excellence in pediatric dentistry.
