We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alexander Kennedy Paterson on August 6, 2025. A distinguished lawyer, community leader, and proud advocate for Canadian unity, Alex dedicated his life to public service, earning some of the country’s highest honours while inspiring those around him with his integrity, warmth, and generosity.

 

Alex was also part of the history of Pedal for Kids. When his firm first participated in 1995, he was determined to surpass the fundraising efforts of much larger law firms, a goal he achieved repeatedly. In his final year before retirement in 2012, Alex pushed his Borden Ladner Gervais team past one million dollars in cumulative fundraising by raising an exceptional $125,150 in a single year, the highest total ever achieved by a team until 2024.

 

Whether before the Supreme Court of Canada, in a boardroom, on the Pedal for Kids bike, or cheering on his grandchildren, Alex brought energy, dedication, and joy to every part of his life. 

 

His commitment, leadership, and compassion left a lasting impact on countless lives, and his legacy will remain an enduring part of the Pedal for Kids story.
